The Refugee Communities Association of Australia (RCAA) is hosting Inaugural REFUGEE WEEK CELEBRATION 2020 #RefugeesWeek2020 coinciding with RCAA COVID-19 Relief Taskforce food distribution on 25th June 2020 (11am to 2:20pm) established in partnership with HelpHimalayan YouthFoundation (HHYF).
The Taskforce have been providing food packages for last 8 weeks for refugee communities, Asylum Seekers and international students affected COVID-19 Pandemic. To date Taskforce have distributed over 8 tons of food 600 families/students donated by members of Vietnamese community who were refugees themselves over three decades ago.
As a newly established organisation by refugees in Australia, our theme for 2020 is: #ForRefugee #WithRefugee #ByRefugees. We support Department of Immigration and Citizenship on their theme/focus for Refugee Week 2020 Celebration “Focussing on the achievements of refugees within employment and entrepreneurship and how refugees support and “give back” to other refugees and their communities.”
RCAA is humbled to have Craig Foster, Human Rights Advocate & SBS Sports Analyst and Viv Nguyen, Chairperson Victorian Multicultural Commission as keynote speakers alongside excellent panel of speakers: Thien Giang- Giang Nguyen- Vietnamese community (former refugee); Hanisha Sharma-Luital Chair of HHYF (former Bhutanese Refugee) Asn Ro Habib (Rohingya Refugee) #ChrisAllen Inspector, Community Engagement ND4 Victoria Police, facilitated by RCAA advisor and VMC Commissioner Bwe Thay.
The panel will reflect & share their contribution on their work during COVID-19 pandemic, benefit of collaboration & partnership with refugee communities, service providers and government agencies including Victoria Police, and how Australian multiculturalism has become the way of our daily life with true sense of belonging and inclusiveness.
The event will be attended by heads of government bodies and agencies, settlement service providers, community organisations and refugee communities with COVID Relief recipients.
